[46] Let us look at the damage to property of Lisa Squires. The Crown has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant intentionally or recklessly caused the prohibited act. Self-induced intoxication is not a defence to a charge under section 430(1)(a) since the offence is a crime of general intent and for authority we can look at the case of R. v. Schmidtke (1985), 44 C.R. (3rd) 392 (Ont.C.A.).
