Admitting to having a criminal record is not an assertion of good character: see Regina v. St. Pierre (1974), 17 C.C.C. (2d) 489 (Ont. C.A.). Such an admission is quite different from testifying as to not having a criminal record, which, implicitly, is a statement of good character
